Day Trips
Day trips are an excellent option if you are based in Taupō or Tūrangi during your stay. They are also ideal for anglers with limited time, a busy itinerary, or those simply passing through the Central North Island.
With access to a diverse range of rivers and backcountry waters across the Taupō, National Park and King Country regions, each day can be tailored around the prevailing conditions, river levels, weather and your fishing objectives.
You will be collected from your accommodation or meet your guide at a pre-arranged location before travelling to the water best suited to the day. Drive times can range from approximately 15 minutes to 1½ hours, depending on the time of year and current conditions.
Once on the water, you will have a full day of guided fly fishing, with the focus on making the most of the conditions and the opportunities available.
Multi Day Trips
A multi-day guided trip offers the opportunity to explore a much wider range of New Zealand’s trout waters, moving between rivers and fisheries to make the most of changing conditions and discover places that a single day simply cannot reach.
Based around the Taupō, Tūrangi, National Park and King Country regions, multi-day trips can be tailored to your interests, experience and ambitions. Each day brings the opportunity to fish a different river, explore new water and experience the variety of landscapes and wild trout fisheries the Central North Island has to offer.
Rather than being tied to one river or location, we can adapt the itinerary as conditions dictate — seeking out the best opportunities available each day. This may include remote backcountry rivers, technical sight-fishing, small streams and larger waterways, with a focus on wild trout and quality fishing experiences.
With more time available, there is also greater flexibility to explore, travel further and spend time on water that may otherwise be out of reach on a single-day trip.

Backcountry Fishing

Explore beyond the well-known fisheries and experience some of the Central North Island’s more remote rivers and backcountry waters.
Rob Vaz offers personalised multi-day trips that can take you across a variety of rivers and landscapes, with the itinerary shaped around the season, conditions, your experience and what you want from the trip.
Some locations are accessed by vehicle, while others require walking and hiking into more remote water. A reasonable level of fitness may be required for certain trips, particularly where longer walks, river crossings or extended days on foot are involved.
The focus is on exploring, learning and fishing new water rather than staying in one location. Each day can bring a different river, different conditions and a different opportunity to sight-fish for wild New Zealand trout.

A 50% deposit is requested in advance to secure your booking via Wise App or internet banking. Balance to be paid on the day of trip. (Paypal or Wise transfer fees are additional) See cancellation policy below:

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation within 30 days will incur loss of deposit.
Cancellation within 7 days will incur a charge of 100% of the full fee (less deposit already paid)
Deposit paid must be used within 12 months or loss of deposit
Insurance
It is advised that clients have current medical and travel insurance including trip cancellation insurance.
Safety Is Priority!
Rob holds a current NZ Red Cross First Aid and Physiological First Aid Certificate, at any time prior to booking Rob is happy to advise on a suitable angling environment to suit your ability.
Rob carries a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) and a full first aid kit.

There are two fishing regions, Lake Taupo and its tributaries are managed by the Department of Conservation while the rest of New Zealand’s fly fishing is managed through licenses from Fish and Game.. Specific license required dependent on region fished at the time.

The Fishing Season
as many anglers. Early season fish are less picky.
Summer: January, February and Marchcan be excellent dry fly fishing. This can be most stable for time for weather and river levels.
Winter: options available subject to weather, some fantastic spring creek fishing is still an option
Weather cancellations
Very occasionally we cannot fish. You should come prepared for rain or sunshine. Should our guide need to cancel the day due to weather or river conditions for safety reasons a full refund less any transaction fees will be given. Updated NZ Weather can be seen https://www.metservice.com/

Where 4x4 transport is provided by a third party, the guide does not own, operate, or control the vehicle and is not responsible for the vehicle, driver, or transport arrangements. Responsibility for the vehicle, driver, and transport remains with the transport provider and/or driver. This does not remove any duties or responsibilities the guide may have under applicable health and safety laws..
