Meet Rob Vaz

This isn’t simply someone who knows where the fish are. It’s someone who understands how to make an angler better.

Kai ora, I'm Rob Vaz — a Kiwi-born professional fly-fishing guide based in New Zealand's Central North Island.

I've spent more than two decades guiding anglers and pursuing trout in New Zealand and around the world.

My competitive fishing career included becoming New Zealand National Fly Fishing Champion and representing New Zealand internationally at World, Commonwealth and Oceania Championships.

Those experiences have given me a deep understanding of fly fishing, but they have also taught me something equally important:

Every angler is different.

The best days on the water aren't simply about catching fish. They're about understanding the conditions, making good decisions, learning something new and enjoying the experience.

MY APPROACH

I don't believe in taking every angler and fishing them the same way.

Some clients want to chase large wild trout. Others want to improve their technique. Some are experienced anglers looking for a challenge, while others are discovering fly fishing for the first time.

I adapt the day around the person in front of me.

My role is to help you make the most of every opportunity while enjoying the river, the landscape and the experience of being in New Zealand.

BEYOND THE RIVER

Fishing has always been a huge part of my life, but my interests extend well beyond the river.

Photography, writing, graphic design, art and travelling to fish overseas all influence the way I see fly fishing.

I've been fortunate to fish in some remarkable places around the world, bringing new ideas, techniques and perspectives back to my own guiding in New Zealand.

But there is still nowhere I'd rather guide than home.
